My Whole30 Review
I did it friends! I survived 30 days of eating a clean diet and boy do I have a lot to share with you. I’m going to start by saying I absolutely loved the experience. Though it was challenging some days and I will likely do this not in the summer the next time around I am impressed with the results of the journey.
I am going to start with the positives:
I have not felt this good in years- my skin is clearer, I was way less bloated, I slept better, and I even lost over 10lbs (though not the main goal of the process, a nice bonus).
I have a much better relationship with food. This process really pushed me outside of my comfort zone when it comes to food and allowed me to experiment more in the kitchen.
The last 30 days also taught me how much processed food I consumed and how important it is to check your labels.
Finally, I did discover I have a gluten and dairy sensitivity, so I will be trying to reduce those in my diet moving forward.
Now to the hard stuff:
Eating out was hard and you definitly have to advocate for yourself. It’s really sad to me that resturants aren’t more accompating to people’s diets but don’t be afraid to ask for what you need and send food back.
If I could go back I would do it with friends. Though Ben and my friends were super supportive of the diet, especially while we were traveling, it was hard to be the only one eating different. Next time I would convince some of my girlfriends to do it with me.
I wouldn’t recommend doing it in the summer. Doing this over Fourth of July, summer BBQ’s, and mountain trips really tested my limits! I plan do to this again but think it would pair better with a dry January or a holiday rest versus doing it in the summer.
The final vertict:
I absolutely loved it! I would recommend it to anyone who is dealing with hormone challenges, gut health issues, or people looking for a good food cleanes. I plan to continue some of the things I learned during Whole30 including reducing my gluten and dairy intake, limiting processed sugars, reading labels and ensuring I am reducing processed food in my diet. I plan to share clean recipes, gluten and dairy free options I’m loving, and much more throughout this jounrey so make sure to follow along on Instagram.
